Send Flowers and Gifts on Women’s Day to Ukraine

Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8th, which we proudly call “International” in Ukraine in fact is celebrated in many countries like Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cambodia, China, Cuba, Georgia, Laos, Madagascar, Moldova, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Zambia etc.

Our customers are often puzzled about this holiday, and are often unsure how important it is and whether we should celebrate it at all. So we prepared some facts for you to get a better feeling of this wonderful holiday.

Ukraine inherited Women’s Day from the time of the former Soviet Union, when it became an official holiday in 1965. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Ukrainians chose to keep the holiday. And now 8th of March is associated primarily with the first spring flowers, warmth, care and love, celebrating feminine beauty, while the original political meaning of March 8th is almost forgotten.

Unlike Mother’s Day, on Women’s Day we celebrate women of all ages - from little girls to elderly women, who are called the “fairer sex” for a reason.

International Women's Day is a public holiday in Ukraine and most businesses are closed. On the eve of March 8th male coworkers give flowers and sweets to female friends, have parties and either official or non-official celebrations. Men prepare special meals or book a restaurant dinner. Boys make surprises such as greeting cards and little souvenirs for their mothers, sisters, and grandmothers.

Traditional gifts on Women’s day in Ukraine are flowers (of course), but also more personalized romantic gifts like jewelery, perfumes, and toys. Gift certificates to a Spa or a fitness club have become very popular gifts as well.

Interesting fact: during the Soviet Union the selection of flowers on this holiday was not very inspiring. Back then March 8th was associated with a tiny bunch of snowdrops which one could buy from street vendors. The first spring flowers as daffodils, irises, and mimosas were considered to be a catch. Of course, nowadays florists in Ukraine offer a great variety of bouquets to celebrate this special occasion. Women’s day flowers start with roses, which are still the most popular flowers in Ukraine, with tulips catching up very close. Glamorous bouquets mixed of different types of flowers can be ordered as well.

International Women's Day is without a doubt the most favourite spring holiday for Ukrainian ladies. This special day personifies not only the arrival of the long-awaited spring, but also serves as an excellent occasion to express all the love and appreciation for the amazing ladies in your life.
